The Yellow Wallpaper

I designed and illustrated this publication for the short story, The Yellow Wallpaper written in 1892 by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. In the story, the
yellow wallpaper symbolizes both entrapment and madness. I used the stark visual contrast of black and saturated yellow to evoke the oppressive atmosphere of the story.

Because this is a story told through journal entries, I wanted to use a tyepface for the titles that had an organic, handwritten feel, but also captured the uneasiness of the story. I chose IM FELL English, which fits the part with it's rough, uneven texture and imperfect rhythm. For the body text, I paired this with Alegreya for it's expressive, humanist qualities and period-appropriate look.
