Forte Magazine is a publication I created to highlight influential composers of the past and present. As a cellist spending years in music school and the classical music world, I noticed that female composers are often only performed on women’s themed concert programs. I wanted to illuminate the works of these groundbreaking, influential composers in the consistent spotlight they deserve.

I designed this publication to feel dramatic, expressive, and equally at home in the widely different historical eras of these composers. I chose to pair the typefaces Coconat and Ogg Text to find this balance. Coconat, designed by Sara Lavazza, feels slightly eccentric with it's flared terminals and sharp apertures, but it also feels editorial, contemporary, and approachable. Ogg Text, designed by San Francisco native, Lucas Sharp, works well with long-form text and adds sophistication and a scholarly feel.
